In the fourth week of 2009, both Star Plus and Colors have grabbed a 24 per cent share each in the overall GEC pie.
With Colors emerging as a contender for the top slot, it looks like the leadership ladder in the Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) genre is all set for a shake-up.
In week 4, only 7 GRP (gross rating points) separates Colors from the current leader Star Plus. Research data by TAM Media covering C&S 4+ show that Star Plus has increased its GRP from 271 in Week 3 to 293 in Week 4, while Colors has increased its GRP from 263 in Week 3 to 286 in Week 4.
Third place goes to Zee TV which has increased its relative share to 18 per cent and its GRP to 221. On January 24, the live broadcast of the grand finale of its popular singing reality show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, from the Gateway of India got a TVR of 4.9.
At number four are NDTV Imagine and Sony. NDTV Imagine has maintained its 6 per cent share and its GRP have increased from 65 to 73. From a relative share of 8 per cent in Week 3, Sony has witnessed a decline to 6 per cent in Week 4, as its GRP have fallen from 93 to 74.
Star One and Sahara one are at the fifth spot with both channels winning a 5 per cent share. In terms of GRP, Star One has fallen four points to 64, while Sahara One has climbed eight points to 54.
