Sources close to the development have reported that the Videocon Group has recently awarded the creative duties for its telecom venture, Datacom Solutions, to McCann Worldgroup’s second agency, T.A.G.
The account will be handled out of the Delhi branch of the agency. The ad spends for Datacom Solutions couldn’t be ascertained.
The company, which is a 64:36 joint venture (JV) between the Dhoots of the Videocon Group and Mahendra Nahata of Himachal Futuristic Communications (HFCL), planned to launch the services by the end of 2008. However, the project was delayed for various reasons.
According to the revised plans, the services are expected to be launched by the middle of this year. The brand identity will be revealed a few months before the launch. Recent media reports have claimed that Datacom will initially launch its services in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, and then cover the rest of India.
Datacom recently appointed international brand consultancy Interbrands to create a brand identity and a brand name for the company. Datacom is also reported to have entered into an MOU with Huawei for the purchase of equipment. The company has procured licences in 21 circles and spectrum in 20 circles.
