Rediffusion Y&R has appointed Karl Gomes national creative director, digital. Gomes moves here from Arc Worldwide, the integrated marketing arm of Leo Burnett, where he was executive creative director, digital, for more than a year.
Gomes has more than 12 years of experience in the ad industry. He has been associated with the digital media space for the last nine years. At Arc Worldwide, his mandate was to leverage Web 2.0 and new media across big campaign-able ideas.
He has also worked with Tribal DDB as national creative director, during which time he won awards at events such as the Asia Pacific Adfest, the Abbys, the AAAIs, the Webbys, the New York Festivals, the One Show and at Cannes. In 2008, he won a bronze Cyber Lion at Cannes. He was also a jury member at the Cannes International Advertising Awards that year.
Gomes says, “Rediffusion Y&R is not going to set up a separate or specialised digital agency. I will be involved in helping the existing Rediffusion clients to offer and carry out their digital media campaigns.”
Wasim Basir, group executive vice-president, Rediffusion Y&R, says, “The significance of Web 2.0 in any communication strategy is no longer questionable. When we decided to create a place for ourselves in that space, we knew we had to go with Karl. He brings with him immense experience in the digital arena, which will add to our mission of providing holistic communication solutions to our clients.”
