NewsX all set to re-lauch and strengthen channel; beefs up senior team

NewsX is hiring senior level people and is curently in the process of working on its new identity. It has recently roped in VK Shashikumar as Head of Special Investigations and News Programming, Sanjay Singh as Resident Editor in Mumbai, and Nandita Kumar as GM in charge of Distribution and Strategic Planning.

An official spokesperson of the company said, “These are part of the continuing steps that we are taking to strengthen and re-launch the channel.”

VK Shashikumar who has joined in Delhi as Head of Special Investigations and News Programming, will also be the Acting Head of Input. In this capacity all bureaus, Assignment, Research, Guest Coordination will report to him. With 14 years of experience, Sashikumar prior to joining NewsX had worked with Doordarshan, Tehelka and The Week. His last assignment was with CNN-IBN, where he was Editor-at-large and Senior Editor, Special Programming.

Sanjay Singh who has joined NewsX as Resident Editor in Mumbai was Senior Editor at IBN7. Over the course of his 17-year TV career, he has worked for several channels, including Zee News, NDTV, and Times Now. Singh has many notable achievements to his name, like breaking the Telgi scam.

Nandita Kumar has joined NewsX in Delhi to take charge as GM for Distribution and Strategic Planning. nandita comes on board with 14 years of experience, and has worked with companies such as AC Nielsen, Star TV, VOI and India TV.

The news channel’s current positioning – ‘Clarity in a Complex World’ – is being revised and according to sources the new look is expected to be unveiled soon.

Again the existing logo of the channel, which was created by UK-based Red Bee Media, is likely to change and according to industry sources, Morgan Almeida is working on the new logo. Almeida is Director at London-based AlmeidaMedia. In the past, Almeida has done branding and creative management for global media brands such as BBC, CNN, US Telecoms/TeleTV, AT&T, Al Jazeera, LBC, KTV, etc.

It may be recalled that in January 2009, INX News was bought over by Indi Media Company Pvt Ltd, a company jointly formed by Vinay Chhajlani, CEO of Naidunia and Founder of Webdunia, and Jehangir Pocha, former editor of Businessworld India.

T.A.G., the second agency from McCann Worldgroup, was assigned the creative duties for NewsX. The account, which was pegged at Rs 15 crore, was won by the Delhi branch of the agency.
