Abhay Desai to Joins Mail Today as associate publisher. Desai is expected to join the organisation in November. He is currently chief executive officer at the youth newspaper, Yuva.
Before joining Yuva, Desai worked with DNA. He has also worked with Hindustan Times for five years. He switched to the publishing industry after spending 10 years in the automobile industry.
Desai confirms the news of his move, saying, “I am looking forward to working at Mail Today. I firmly believe that the future of news lies in the compact. Infrastructural changes in the expansion of metros will see the popularity of compacts such as Mail Today going up. It will be good fun to be associated with an emerging trend and contributing to the growth of the publication.”
Desai adds that his new role will see him move back to Delhi, where his family is. He is currently based in Mumbai. This is one of the reasons why he’s leaving Yuva.
His stay at Yuva has been very short – just six months. What was his contribution to the organisation? Desai explains, “My stint has been very short, but I have worked towards strengthening Yuva’s position as a paper for the youth by creating a definite awareness in the larger sections about the existence of the brand. Besides that, I managed to put together a strong marketing team.”
Desai is confident that Mail Today lends itself to a very interesting audience, which covers SEC A and, therefore, presents a unique opportunity to attract a different set of brands and advertisers. He says that it’s too early to name the brands, explaining that the coming months will see a lot of action as far as the compact is concerned.
