The director of strategic planning, Grey Bengaluru, Renilson Joseph has decided to switch to BBDO as the associate vice-president where he will head two big accounts namely, Aviva and Quaker Oats.
Talking about his switch, Joseph says, “I have chosen to be associated with the agency to be a party to what the agency creates and give an impetus to the agency in terms of the work that is produced.”
Joseph started his 12 year career as a sales officer for Westar Watches, incharge of Goa, Belgaum and North Canara and joined Trikaya Grey, Bengaluru after spending a year in sales. “I have a family of advertising people – my brother and his wife. Hearing them speak about it, I stepped into advertising because it was about creation,” he remembers.
After spending a year at Trikaya Grey, he moved to Lowe and then McCann Erickson and Ogilvy in the subsequent years before joining Japan Tobacco International in early 2003 as brand manager.
Explaining this move he says, “It is always best to get a complete view – having been on the advertising side, it’s always best to know the other side of the picture – about details such as distribution and pricing. Moreover, the cigarette industry is a highly penetrated category and it was a challenge to build both the brands.”
In 2005, he re-entered the ad industry by joining Ad Inc in Muscat before returning to work for TBWA Chennai, Bates 141 (then Bates Enterprise) Bengauluru and Grey, Bengaluru in a span of 3 years.
Some of the major clients he has worked for include Volvo, Amante, Allen Solly, Loop Mobile (BPL Mobile), Spencer’s, Timex, Titan, Danone, Hindustan Unilever, MTV, Dockers and Weekender.
