Afaqs: Bharti Airtel, leading telecom service provider in India will soon venture into digital media business. The new venture will see them distribute content among various users including media companies and producers.
Bharti Airtel will also cater to range of users like news channels, cinemas, gaming and animation firms and also banking institutions.
Sanjay Kapoor CEO Bharti Airtel in conversation with reporters says, “There is a clear demand for secure digital distribution capability across multiple platforms. Airtel Digital Media Business will help establish India as an innovation hub for global content and format delivery.”
“The move would also pave the way for over 16,000 cinema screens across the country to potentially offer high-quality international viewing experience for consumers in India,” he added.”
As per the reports of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Indian media and entertainment industry is expected to rise at 11 percent CAGR (compounded annual growth rate) from current Rs 61,100 crore to Rs 92,900 crore by 2013.
