Jaideep Bose has joined as the editorial director, Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd (BCCL), with a wide range of responsibilities across the Group’s media platforms. This is a newly created position by the BCCL, which publishes leading newspapers like The Times of India (TOI) and The Economic Times (ET).
Bose has been at the helm of the TOI since January 2004. Prior to that, he was executive editor, the ET for a few years. He began his career with the Times Group as resident editor of the Kolkata edition of ET sometime in the early 90s. He moved in from The Telegraph of the ABP Group in Kolkata.
Ravi Dhariwal, CEO, publishing, BCCL, announcing these changes through an internal circular said, “Over the past three to four years The Times of India has made remarkable strides in its editorial quality. It has steadily become far more vibrant and youthful; at the same time it has added far more weight and substance to its various sections.”
” As a result, the paper today comfortably straddles both the ‘mass end’ of the newspaper reading universe as well as the segment of opinion-makers and intelligentsia. Moreover, in market after market, the brand is steadily out-distancing itself from its competitors. This is mainly due to our editorial quality and marketing that connects with our readers.” Dhariwal added.
Referring to Bose, the circular said, “I am delighted to announce that the man at the helm of this transformation, Jaideep Bose, is being elevated to Editorial Director of the Times Group.”
The circular also announced that Bose “would be involved in inspiring editorial quality and take it to greater heights. He will also play a key role in guiding the management in the development of our overall editorial strategy across news platforms as the Group continues its march towards becoming a 360-degree news and media organisation.”
