Afaqs: Don’t be surprised to see an advertisement on the back of you photocopy sheet. Harsh Narang a final year student along with other three students Rohan Anand, Pranav Mohan and Navjot Kukreja have come up with this unique concept.
The concept is named as “Phokatcopy” targeting student in the age group of 18 to 24 who are mostly like to photocopy more then anyone else. The concept is to make use of the blank side of the A4 size paper for advertising purpose.
Speaking about the birth of Phokatcopy Narang says, “I’d get about 1,000 pages photocopied every year, and that’s when the idea of Phokatcopy struck me.” He was a part of a business plan competition in IIT-Delhi which helped him formulate the concept and the journey of Phokatcopy began.
Phokatcopy will help students get a card worth Rs 10 (he pays Rs 10 for 20 sheets of photocopy at the rate of 50 paisa per sheet). He can reimburse this card for goodies and gifts, provided he photocopies from the selected outlets of “Phokatcopy”.
“If a student wants to redeem his points for talk-time, he is not restricted to any single service provider. We buy talk-time from all service providers, so that there is no compulsion on students,” says Narang.
It is a win-win situation for the photocopy dealers as well. Usually, the dealer shells out around Rs 120 for 500 sheets; but PhokatCopy delivers the sheets pre-printed on one side with advertisements and that too at the rate of Rs 20 for 500 sheets. Phokatcopy will charge Rs 625 for 500 sheets from its advertisers and the printed ad pages will also be given by advertisers themselves.
In this manner, Phokatcopy can make around Rs 4 lakhs if the sale goes as per the estimation that is 6 lakhs sheets a month. Phokatcopy has already managed to rope in 10 youth brands including Café Coffee Day, Apple, Fastrack and Vodafone.
