Afaqs: Mediacom has come up with a new designation, National buying director to meet the needs of clients. Avinash Pillai has been roped in for this position and he will take care of Mediacom’s national planning function.
In conversation with Afaqs, Pillai said, “Mediacom already has a good talent pool; I hope to bring my experience, particularly my ad sales experience, to plan and implement better media buying across all our clients.”
Managing director, Mediacom, Divya Gururaj adds, “Our clients have ambitious plans, be it Dell, P&G or Volkswagen. For a while, we were looking for a senior planning person in our agency and Avinash fits the role perfectly as he has worked across various media, including TV, print, activation, content and radio. Therefore, he shall bring a holistic perspective to Mediacom.”
Pallai kick started his career with ABP groups Anandabazar Patrika Group in ad sales function for four years. He later spent another four years with Mindshare Fulcrum in the media buying department.
Pillai was heading print and radio buying functions and later moved down south to deal with key media vendors for Hindustan Unilever (HUL). With experience Pillai then took care of entire regional television buying portfolio for south, Marathi and Bengali.
His experience later took him to Turner International as a senior sales director for cartoon network and pogo. His next venture included Radio One as a vice president, ad sales. After two years he shifted to Vision Time a production house for Sun TV network before he became a part of Mediacom.
