Yamaha the well known Japanese two-wheeler company is said to launch a new version of its super-bike YZF-R1 in India around next year. They also intend to introduce a range of other models and variants as well, to strengthen its position in India.
The company aims at selling 220,000 units in India and export 70,000 units this year they are also aiming for a 50 per cent growth is sales from both segments in 2010. In the words of Pankaj Dubey, India Yamaha Motor National Business Head, “We will launch a new version of YZF-R1 in India in 2010. The bike will be a bit more expensive than the existing YZF-R1, but will have the same 998cc engine.”
The existing YZF-R1 was launched in 2007 and costs around Rs 10.5 lakh. The model YZF-R1 2010 will be imported from Japan as completely built unit just like the 2007 version.
“We will be launching a CBU model during next month’s Delhi Auto Expo. Besides, we will also showcase some other models and versions during the expo which are likely to be launched during the course of the year in India,” said Dubey.
India Yamaha Motor, the Japanese company’s wholly-owned Indian subsidiary, also aims at increasing its domestic sales.
