The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has issued another showcause notice to Colors, this time for its daily soap ‘Na Aana Iss Des Laado’ for showing a government official (a District Magistrate in this case) in a bad light in ‘Laado’. The organisation issued this notice barely four days after issuing the first one which against Colors’ controversial show ‘Bigg Boss – 3’.
The channel has 15 days to reply to the notice which has been sent under Section 5 of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act 1995, read with Rule 6 (1) (a), (d), (i) and (k) of the Cable Television Networks Rules, 1994 and in violation of the Programme Code.
When asked why MIB has taken exception to this particular show when government officials have been shown in a negative light in numerous films, television and other creative mediums before, the officials responded saying, “a District Magistrate is the chief representative of the Governmentat the district level. Thus, deliberately portraying the character of the District Magistrate in a derogatory way appears to demean the public institution and bring it to disrepute unnecessarily”.
Based on a Haryana village, ‘Na Aana Iss Des Laado’ highlights the plight of women in rural areas, with special focus on female foeticide.
