JC Giri is set to make a comeback to O&M as the regional director for the Unilever operations for Ogilvy & Mather – Asia Pacific and will work under Sophie Hoffstetter, regional president – Client Growth.
Giri had joined STAR TV India in July 2008 as executive vice-president and general manager and during his short tenure headed the launch of its regional general entertainment channels (GEC), Star Jalsha (Bengali) and Star Pravah (Marathi).
After beginning his advertising career a Chennai-based agency called Vantage Advertising, Giri joined O&M Chennai as a media executive in 1995. In just two years, he was promoted to the post of a senior consultant for Unilever, one of the biggest clients of O&M Mumbai.
In 2000, Giri went on to assume the position of the national head for Ogilvy Landscapes, the outdoor specialist unit of Ogilvy and in the next three years took over as the country head for Ogilvy Activation (now OgilvyAction). This firm comprised of Ogilvy Live (ground level communication), Ogilvy Outreach (rural communication), Ogilvy Landscapes (outdoor), Ogilvy Sports (sports marketing consultancy, property representation and sales, licensing and merchandising, new media and event management) and Ogilvy Signscapes (professional outdoor media unit, offering complete retail design solutions).
By 2005, Giri was declared as the president of operations for all divisions of O&M Mumbai.
