Sanjay Trehan, cCEO, NDTV Convergence, has put in his papers at the organisation after a two years stint. He quit the organisation on April 13, 2009 and is presently serving his notice period.
Trehan has confirmed the development and said that he will announce his next assignment in three weeks time. “I am looking ahead for a far better opportunity, which sounds to be very lucrative for me and I have decided to take it.”
About his stay at NDTV, Trehan said, “My experience at NDTV Convergence was very enriching and empowering one. NDTV has been very good to me professionally and personally. I enjoyed a fantastic working relationship with the senior management of the company.”
Trehan had joined the company in March 2007 and was the founding CEO of NDTV Convergence. From about a 15 member department, he is credited to have built NDTV Convergence into a unit of over 100 professionals, each of whom have been known names in the digital space. He was responsible for steering growth for the media interests and for driving it into the new media environments.
At NDTV Convergence, Trehan has steered the launches of many initiatives, including the first Indian full service WAP portal, NDTV Active. He was instrumental in incubating the video aggregator, Tubaah.com, and the video-based Hindi portal, Ndtvkhabar.com, besides a slew of channel portals.
Trehan can be termed as a new media expert as he has spent ten years in leading online businesses. Prior to NDTV, his assignment with Indiatimes.com was as VP, broadband and Web2.0. He was the force behind re-inventing Indiatimes in the broadband era, migrating its linear narrowband content to broadband-enabled multimedia content. He joined the Times Group in June 2005.
Prior to Times Internet, Trehan was chief of the Internet division of Hindustan Times. He joined HT Media in March 2001 and played an instrumental role in turning around the Internet division there; prior to his appointment, the division had been incurring losses.
Earlier, Trehan and his team launched Jaldi.com. In 2001, he quit Jaldi.com as COO and joined Razorfinish.com, a reverse auction site for travel, as VP. At Razorfinish, Trehan looked after marketing communications, content development and strategic alliances.
He has also worked in an advertising environment, beginning his career with Lowe (then Lintas) after acquiring a Master’s degree in history from St Stephen’s College.
