Eight Indian agencies feature in The Work ’08

The 2008 edition of The Work Annual has accepted entries from eight Indian advertising agencies – one less than last year.


The annual archive will now feature work from O&M, JWT, Leo Burnett, Rediffusion DY&R, Contract, McCann Erickson, Publicis Ambience and Publicis India.

Leading the pack this year is O&M India, with 12 entries. Of these, nine are from O&M Mumbai, two from Bengaluru and one from Kolkata. The entries include HSBC Corporate’s ‘Swimming Pool’ and Getty Images’ ‘Window Sticker’ in the Ambient Single category; WWF’s ‘Plant More Lives (Bird/ Elephant/ Fish)’ in the Print Craft Campaign category; Mattel Toys’ ‘Bed, Chair and Table’ in the Magazine Campaign category; Videocon Washing Machine’s ‘Chimney, Drain and Dumper’ and Vodafone’s ‘Debate’ in the Newspaper Campaign category.

Some of its other entries include Hutch MSN Search ‘Pigeon’ in the Outdoor Single category; Videocon Integra Wide Screen TV ‘Gunshot, Soap Opera and Table Tennis’ in the Radio Campaign category; Neo Sports India-Pakistan Series’ ‘Gas and Rusty Nail’ in the Television Campaign category; Mihira Light’s ‘Lamp Shade, Lamp Post and Side Lamp’ in the Newspaper Campaign category; Apollo Hospital’s ‘Reincarnation, After Life and Spirits’ in the Public Service Campaign category and Calcutta School of Music’s ‘Bach Gavotte’ in the Outdoor Single category.

O&M India maintains the same tally of 12 entries as in the 2007 edition of The Work.

With eight entries in total, JWT India is second in line. The entries include International Yoga Stretch Festival’s ‘Stretch Festival’ in the Ambient Single category; Care Foundation’s ‘Burden’ in the Ambient Single category; The Times of India’s ‘Lead India’ in the Integrated Campaign category; Yellow Pages’ ‘R.I.P. Yellow Pages’ in the Integrated Campaign category; Reynolds Permanent Marker ‘Twins’ in the Newspaper Single category; Diet Pepsi’s ‘Levis, Esprit and Diesel’ in the Poster Campaign category; Nike India’s ‘Traffic’ in the Television Single category and Point of View ‘Domestic Violence’ in the Public Service Single category.

JWT India also had the same number of entries – eight – in 2007.

Leo Burnett Mumbai is third with six entries, which is one entry short of its tally last year. The entries are: Tide ‘Put Stains Back Where they Belong’ in the Magazine Campaign category; Luxor Highlighter ‘Che, Hitler and Chaplin’ in the Newspaper Campaign and Print Craft categories; Sony Entertainment Television ‘Novel’ in the Direct Marketing Single category; Shri Aurobindo Data Recovery ‘Memory Book’ in the Ambient Single category and Car Security System ‘Ruler’ in the Ambient Single category.

Rediffusion DY&R India has four entries to its name. These are Juice Salon’s ‘Hairstyles’ in the Ambient Single category; Getty Images ‘Frame’ in the Direct Marketing Single category; Xerox’s ‘George Bush’ in the Outdoor Single category and Reliance General Insurance’s ‘Water’ in the Television Single category.

Contract India has four entries – two from Mumbai and two from Delhi. The Mumbai entries are Aadhar Association’s ‘Family Name’, which has been selected in the Craft in Print and Public Service categories. The Delhi entries are Children of the World’s ‘Help Me Read This’ in the Direct Marketing Single category and Society for Better Environment’s ‘City Within Limits 1 & 2’ in the Poster Campaign category.

Next in line is McCann Erickson India, with three entries. These are Cocco’s Café’s ‘Marilyn, Kurt and Van Gogh’ in the Newspapers Campaign category; Happydent’s (Perfetti Van Melle) ‘Sleepless, Grandpa and Flashman’ in the Outdoor Campaign category and Anando Milk’s ‘Building’ in the Outdoor Single category.

Publicis Ambience Mumbai and Publicis India Delhi have one entry each. While Publicis Ambience’s entry is a self promotion work by Ashish Khazanchi titled ‘Bang Bang’ in the Print Craft Single category, Publicis India’s entry is HP Notebook & PC’s ‘Thin’ in the Business to Business Single category.

The Work, first published in 2002, is an annual hardback publication that includes advertisements which are winners or finalists at any of the international, national or regional award shows. The publication covers creative work in categories, such as Outdoor, Print: Single, Print: Campaign, Radio, Television and Ambient, among others.
